The Department of Biology at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a research technician position in the laboratory of Dr. Maria de la Paz Fernandez.

This position is initially for two years, with the possibility of extension based on performance and interest. The lab studies the neuronal basis of behavior.

Job Description:
Design and execute Drosophila genetic crosses to support the lab’s research program.
Perform and analyze experiments related to the neuroanatomy of clock neurons and sleep/wake cycles in Drosophila.
Manage a collection of Drosophila genetic strains and maintain the associated database.
Meet weekly with the primary investigator to set experimental goals and review results.
Attend and occasionally give weekly lab meetings with lab members to discuss lab research and relevant papers.
Supervise and train new undergraduate students in the lab.
Oversee general lab maintenance, including placing orders and managing inventory.
Basic Qualifications
Skills, Qualifications, and Requirements:
Recent bachelor’s or master’s graduate with a degree in any STEM field, preferably Biology, Chemistry, or Neuroscience.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Good interpersonal skills.
At least one year of part-time research experience.
Preferred:Previous work experience with Drosophila.

Working conditions/demands: The role requires the ability to move about within an office and lab environment.

Timing and compensation: Review of applicants will begin April 1 and continue until the position is filled. The ideal start is May 1, although the starting date can be adjusted to suit the candidate. The initial appointment is for two years, with potential reappointment for additional years contingent upon satisfactory performance and funding availability. Salary will be commensurate with experience and full benefits are included; $50,000-$60,000.
