Department InformationWithin this setting, the Department of Biology is a growing leader in biological research in Georgia, with over 50 faculty and staff serving more than 1000 majors. Our Department offers undergraduate (BS/BA in Biology) and graduate programs (M.S. in Biology, Ph.D. in Environmental Science, and Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences), providing students with a challenging education that is research-based and technology-oriented. In addition, the Department delivers core curriculum and foundation courses for students across the university. This Liberty campus position will support the Department¿s mission by providing student-centered classroom and laboratory instruction and by contributing to high quality, engaging student learning experiences.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Department Chair, the Lecturer requires teaching multiple lecture and lab courses each semester, including the introductory biology courses for majors (Principles of Biology I and II) as well as a two-course sequence for non-majors (Environmental, followed by Life). The position also includes service responsibilities, duties as assigned by the Department Chair, engagement in student success initiatives and participation in professional development. The position is a 10-month, renewable, non-tenure track Lecturer appointment with opportunities for promotion and the potential to teach summer courses.
Required Qualifications
Earned MS in Biology or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the Biological Sciences by May 31, 2026.
Qualifications to teach undergraduate biology lecture courses and laboratories and ability to cultivate an educational environment that supports and inspires students.
Effective communication, strong organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate well with colleagues across different roles.
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Biology, or a closely related field, with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the Biological Sciences by May 31, 2026
A minimum of 1 year of college/university teaching
Experience implementing student-centered pedagogies
Experience teaching online courses
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
