Job Description

Summary

The James Orengo Lab seeks a dedicated and motivated research technician II to be a part of the labs work on exploring novel therapeutics in spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). The position entails joining a team of Postdoctoral Associates, Research Technicians and Interns. The candidate will assist and manage experiments using mouse models and human cell culture models.

This is a full time position and will be onsite on

Job Duties

  • Assist in the management of a small-medium sized mouse colony.
  • Carefully genotype mice of various genetic backgrounds.
    • This include collecting a small amount of tissue and extracting DNA followed by PCR analysis.
  • Careful record keeping is imperative to track the genotype of each mouse in the colony.
  • Perform drug screening on human cell culture system.
  • Manage a set of experiments to apply these drugs at various concentrations to SCA cell culture models and assess for rescue of disease using cell based assays and imuno-histochemistry microscopy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work in a previous lab with rodent models is preferred.
