What Your Job Will Be Like:
The Nuclear Deterrence (ND) Configuration Management team is seeking a Manager, R&D Science and Engineering.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Manage a dynamic team of exempt and non-exempt members of the workforce within the department.
- Interpret and enforce Defense Program Business Process System (DPBPS) and Realize Product Procedure (RPP) requirements.
- Help define or refine CM policies and deliverables to capture lessons learned from past programs to enable success of current/future modernization and stockpile systems programs.
- Continue identifying programs and projects to be on-boarded into CM compliance using a graded approach for the transition.
- Coordinate with multi-disciplinary management peers and/or staff to negotiate, establish, and ensure the consistent application of CM principles.
- Lead subordinate employee recruitment, selection, training, work assignments, recognition, and disciplinary actions, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Contribute to the acquisition and development of staff resources, capabilities, and existing or future projects.
- Coordinate work that is rooted in the fundamentals of science and engineering and requires a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles.
- Help encourage and coordinate the delivery of appropriate training to the ND workforce on configuration management principles, process, and IT systems usage.
- Lead updates (and, if necessary, the creation) and coordination of documentation on the processes and procedures for various activities the department performs.
- Assist the team with programmatic and technical work.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM. Some travel is required for this position.
Salary Range:
$157,100 - $267,000
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a relevant STEM field, plus four (4) years of experience; OR Bachelor’s degree in stated field, plus eight (8) years of experience; OR equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and Sigma 15 access, which may require polygraphy testing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Nuclear Deterrence (ND) Product Realization Process.
- Working knowledge of the basic Configuration Management (CM) practices and processes.
- Experience managing or leading a technical team.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Degrees in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, and/or Computer Engineering.
- A minimum of two years of demonstrated leadership experience.
- Experience using PDMLink/Windchill CM tools.
- Formal training in the fundamentals of CM.
- Proven track record of presenting highly technical information to large and diverse audiences.
- Experience in crafting technical training.
- Experience working with NNSA and NSE partners.
- Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks under strict guidelines.
- Excellent customer relations skills (both internal and external).
About Our Team:
The Nuclear Deterrence (ND) CM department defines or refines standard policies and deliverables for the following areas and enables successful completion of:
- System Definition (comprehensive bill of program/weapon system information)
- Technical Breakdown Structure (program-specific framework of each weapon system)
- Weapon System Baseline Management (requirements, material lists (MLs), unit under test, gates/reviews)
- Product Data Architecture (scalable ontology for systems, components, supplementals, and use control)
- IT Portfolio Management (manage program usage of digital solutions)
- Integrated Change Control (merge corporate and ND program specific implementations)
- Configuration Status Reporting (standard reporting for product/documentation tracking)
- Verification, Audit, and Audit Readiness (standardize CM con-ops with surety/surveillance and quality)
Key Capabilities
The department is made up of a centralized team of CM subject matter experts (SMEs) that focuses on partnering with Program Managers, Weapon System/Product Realization Team (PRT) Engineers, and teams in alignment with ND Transformation (NDT) and Digital Engineering Enterprise (DEE) goals to:
- Utilize a proven approach to yield a maintainable System-level bill of information (MLs, qual tests, review/gates)
- Provide a scalable set of policies/processes, roles/responsibilities, and tools/technology
- Improve CM operational efficiency and ND knowledge preservation across all modernization (i.e., B61-12/-13, W80-4, W87-1, W93-0) and stockpile programs (i.e., W76, W80-1, W78)
- Assume stake in facilitating/partnering in 7-digit specification change control process
The CM Team provides expertise in:
- IT portfolio management
- ND product definition/realization
- Change control
- Program/system data structure
- CM training to program MOWs
- NTK/NEA/UC/OPSEC assurance
- Program-level audit readiness

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
