Job Summary

The System Administrator II is responsible for advanced levels of analyzing, designing, configuring, installing, maintaining, and supporting the full computer system landscape for all business applications. This includes development, test and production environment (standalone and virtual) and includes activities such as proactive utilization analysis, capacity forecasting, preventive maintenance, patch management, software installation, computer files maintenance, backup and recovery functions.



Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, setting, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs, such as backups.
Apply OS patches on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure/add new services as necessary.
Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
Contribute to and maintain system standards.
Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
Maintain data center policy.
Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.
Coordinate and communicate with impacted customers.
Be able to work nights or weekends as needed for job duties.
Work with external vendors/consultants to diagnose complex problems and drive resolution.
Resolve errors and alarms quickly and provide timely escalation.
Support the help desk.

Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up.
Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
Provide budgetary assistance for future needs.
Mentor System Administrator I through leadership and setting positive examples.
Scripting automated package delivery.
Must be able to work independently to troubleshoot, perform root cause analysis, identify and isolate technical issues.
Documentation of systems and processes.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
Minimum 5 years’ experience and proficiency in at least 4 of the following enterprise areas:
VMWare
Virtual Desktop
SCCM
Windows OS and Updates (server and client)
Linux OS, Active Directory
San Storage
Data Backup
Redundant/failover data center utilization
Experience implementing and managing 50+ server environments.
Strong experience with NAS and /or SAN.
Experience with implementing and using systems monitoring software.
Ability to communicate complex technical problems concisely and professionally to technical and non-technical audiences.
May accept a combination of education and experience.
