Job Description

The Kalkreuter Lab in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Florida State University (www.kalkreuterlab.com) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate to join our research group. Successful candidates will be enthusiastic about applying new skills and strategies to existing expertise in natural product discovery or natural product biosynthesis to contribute to ongoing or new projects focused on the discovery and biosynthetic characterization of bacterial natural products, especially from Actinobacteria.

About the Lab
Our research integrates synthetic biology, enzymology, and genome mining to uncover new bioactive molecules and expand the biosynthetic potential of Actinobacteria. We utilize cutting-edge techniques, including heterologous expression, pathway engineering, and biochemical characterization, to understand and manipulate biosynthetic pathways. Our lab started in 2024, providing unique leadership opportunities and significant project control. Come join us in sunny Florida!

Qualifications
• Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, or a related field
• Strong background in either natural product discovery (e.g., genome mining, metabolomics, isolation) or natural product biosynthesis (e.g., pathway elucidation, enzyme biochemistry, biosynthetic engineering)
• Experience with LC-MS, NMR, genetic engineering, heterologous expression, or bioinformatics is highly desirable
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Position Details
• Full-time position, initially for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding
