Job Description

Summary

A Staff Scientist position is immediately available at Dr. Xiang “Shawn” Zhang Laboratory in Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center. The research program of Zhang Laboratory focuses on breast cancer metastasis & tumor immunology. We are interested in the roles of various stromal and immune cells in breast cancer progression & metastasis. We aim to delineate cross-talks between stromal/immune cells and tumor cells in various microenvironments, and understand how such cross-talks contribute to diverse metastatic behaviors of breast cancer.

Job Duties

  • Prepare and conduct laboratory research experiments
  • Collect, compile and analyze data
  • May participate in the development of grant budgets; oversees expenditures of grant monies; performs accounting functions; produces expenditure reports
  • Select, evaluate and apply techniques used in routine research
  • Oversight of Lab Maintenance: Consults with faculty to determine equipment purchase priorities based on budget, condition of existing equipment, and scheduled laboratory activities
  • Facilitate program project applications with Breast Center as primary contact
  • Attend research seminars/meetings, and read/digest relevant literatures to obtain a relatively deep understanding of program project-related research topics within a defined timeframe
  • Organize meetings among principle investigators, trainees, and other research staff to prepare program project applications
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, genetics or related areas
  • Must be highly motivated and passionate for pursuing scientific areas
  • Experience in mouse genetics, histology, molecular and cellular biology
  • Experience with ex vivo models of metastasis will be a strong plus
  • Must be a teamplayer and work well within a group. Cross-training and transparency among the admin team is encouraged and practiced.

Work Authorization Requirement:
