Job Description
The Director of Marketing & Strategic Communications serves as the College’s primary marketing and communications professional and is responsible for both strategic planning and day-to-day execution of marketing, communications, digital content, and branding initiatives. Reporting directly to the Dean, the Director develops and implements communications and marketing strategies that enhance the College’s reputation, support enrollment growth, strengthen alumni and corporate engagement, and promote student success and career outcomes.The Director serves as a key member of the College of Business leadership team and is responsible for developing and executing communications and marketing strategies that advance the College’s mission and strategic priorities. Working closely with the Dean and the College’s development officer, the Director supports initiatives related to enrollment growth, alumni engagement, donor stewardship, corporate partnerships, student success, and the overall reputation and visibility of the College. The Director also provides executive communications support to the Dean and assists in communicating the College’s strategic priorities and accomplishments to internal and external stakeholders.
The position may supervise student employees and coordinate the work of external vendors and contractors as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Envision, create, and implement innovative marketing and communications initiatives that advance the mission, visibility, engagement, and reputation of the College of Business.
• Develop, write, edit, and execute strategic communications for multiple audiences using traditional, digital, social media, and emerging communications platforms.
• Create, write, and edit the College of Business e-newsletter.
• Create, write, and edit the College of Business annual report.
• Manage and execute day-to-day social media strategy and engagement.
• Write and edit alumni, student, faculty, employer, and donor profiles.
• Write press releases, feature stories, and articles highlighting the achievements and impact of the College’s students, faculty, alumni, and programs.
• Develop content that communicates the College’s innovation, engagement, impact, and excellence.
• Develop, implement, and assess marketing and communications strategies that support undergraduate, graduate, online, and executive education enrollment goals.
• Partner with the Dean and the College’s development officer to develop and execute communications strategies that support alumni engagement, donor cultivation and stewardship, corporate partnerships, fundraising initiatives, and external stakeholder relations.
• Provide executive communications support to the Dean, including the development of presentations, reports, speeches, talking points, briefing materials, annual meeting materials, board presentations, and other communications for internal and external stakeholders.
• Oversee the strategic management of the College’s digital presence, including website content, messaging, search engine optimization (SEO), user experience, accessibility, and ongoing content updates.
• Utilize analytics and performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, communications efforts, digital platforms, and stakeholder engagement initiatives and make data-informed recommendations for improvement.
• Evaluate existing print and electronic materials and develop new communications and marketing materials as needed, including brochures, digital content, email campaigns, presentations, graphics, and other promotional materials.
• Develop and implement proactive communications strategies that highlight the academic excellence, student success, faculty achievements, economic impact, and societal contributions of the College of Business.
• Assist in the preparation, coordination, and submission of communications-related information and supporting materials for AACSB accreditation activities, rankings submissions, annual reports, and external reporting initiatives.
• Collaborate with University Admissions, Communications, Development, and other campus partners to ensure alignment of messaging, branding, and strategic priorities.
• Supervise student employees and coordinate the work of external vendors, freelancers, photographers, designers, videographers, and other contractors as needed to support College communications and marketing initiatives.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, business, or a related field required.
• Master’s degree is preferred.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field, with a demonstrated record of developing and executing successful communications and marketing strategies.
• Experience utilizing a wide range of communications platforms and approaches, including print, digital, social media, multimedia, web, and mobile communications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong editorial judgment, and demonstrated storytelling ability.
• Demonstrated experience using analytics and performance metrics to assess effectiveness and guide strategic decision-making.
• Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain exceptional attention to detail.
• Strong quantitative skills and experience managing budgets, vendors, and external contractors.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, employers, advisory board members, and other external stakeholders.
• Familiarity with emerging communications technologies, digital marketing tools, and AI-enabled content creation platforms.
• Experience in higher education, nonprofit organizations, economic development, or other mission-driven organizations is preferred.
