Executive Director for Career and Experiential Learning


University of Washington Bothell, a top-ranked, student-centered regional public university in Bothell, Washington, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of executive director for career and experiential learning. This is an on-site position with flexible work arrangements, including the option to work a hybrid schedule with up to two remote workdays per week. The anticipated start date is January 2027.

Part of the University of Washington, UW Bothell was established following approval by the Washington State Legislature in 1989. UW Bothell is known for providing a student experience grounded in close relationships with faculty as researchers, teachers, and mentors—and the personalized support of staff dedicated to student success. Both faculty and staff have been recognized nationally for innovations in academic programming and support services designed to help students graduate on time and debt-free. As part of its commitment to excellence inside and outside the classroom, UW Bothell places particular value on community engagement, diversity, and environmental sustainability. The campus is distinguished by its focus on connected learning and cross-disciplinary research, scholarship, and creative practice. UW Bothell is now home to more than 6,000 students enrolled in more than 55 different undergraduate and graduate programs.

Reporting to the associate vice chancellor and dean for student success, the executive director provides strategic leadership for UW Bothell's integrated Career and Experiential Learning Center and advances a campus-wide vision connecting academic learning, career development, and real-world experience. The executive director leads the development, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of career development and experiential learning opportunities and guides a newly integrated organization created through the merger of career services and connected learning. The executive director will oversee a department of approximately 11 full-time professional staff and manage a $1.8 million operating budget, plus $400,000 in endowed funds and $160,000 in unrestricted gift funds.

The salary range is $153,600–$160,000.

Qualifications
A master's degree in higher education, student affairs, educational leadership, workforce development, public administration, business, counseling, or a related field, and a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education, experiential learning, career services, workforce development, community engagement, or a related field are required. The successful candidate will possess demonstrated experience leading complex organizational initiatives and change; supervising, developing, and supporting professional staff; managing budgets and organizational resources; and building collaborative relationships with faculty, institutional leaders, employers, community organizations, and other partners.
